Curriculum

High Five uses a child-initiated and teacher-led activity approach.  By integrating the children’s interest, this helps the children to become more engaged in the curriculum.  Also, High Five uses a combination of play and structure to make pre-kindergarten readiness more enjoyable!

Areas of Focus

Language Development – High Five Preschool strives to emphasize the importance of early literacy skills.  High Five provides creative daily projects to enhance reading, writing, and letter/word recognition skills.  The preschool also offers areas such as Library/Listening Area, as well as Art/Writing Area to encourage children to enjoy developing these skills.  Also simple tools and daily rituals, such as the children’s daily sign in sheet and an alphabet review during circle time will help to create a strong basis for language and literacy development.

Math Development- High Five Preschool presents early math development in a way that is fun for the children.  HFP focuses on number recognition, counting, and one to one correspondance.  Daily rituals such as Calendar and counting specific objects on our walks help to make math more enjoyable.  Also High Five Preschool offers different classroom areas (Block area, Science Area, and Manipulatives Area) that will encourage and develop math skills during play.

Physical Development-  High Five Preschool has both indoor and outdoor areas for physical development.  High Five recognizes the importance of providing the children with more physically active time during the day.  High Five is lucky to be surrounded by Burlingame’s open field spaces, as well as walkway by the water to use as a part of its daily outdoor routine.  Also, the preschool is equipped with a large amount of free indoor area and indoor gym equipment.  The preschoolers will also be able to participate in therapist facilitated physical education classes.

Social/Emotional Development-  Social and emotional development can be seen through our group activties.  The children will be provided opportunities to work in pairs, as well as small groups, giving them a chance to exchange knowledge and share experiences with each other.  High Five also provides beautiful and well equipped Dramatic Play and Art Area where children can express themselves.
